Direct Dial Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the Landline Direct Dial Service?
From our website, select which destination you are dialing to. Dial the access number corresponding with that destination, followed by the full international number. Make sure that you dial 00, plus the country code before your number. It’s that simple.

Do I have to sign up for this service?
In order to use our Landline Direct Dial Service, you do not need to sign up or register. You simply dial your access number followed by the full international number.

Are there any other charges or fees?
The prices on our website are fully inclusive. There are no further connection or subscription costs, charged by us, on top of the cost per minute as advertised on our website. The rates include VAT and the costs for the international connection.

How much does it cost to dial my country?
From our website select your destination and find the corresponding access number. The price per minute given includes VAT and the cost of the international part of the call.

Calls are normally billed per second. Your service provider may also charge a minimum charge or connection fee for each call; for example BT apply a 5p minimum charge. NTL charge a 5p connection fee and Telewest a 6p connection fee for 08 numbers and 10p for 09 numbers. If you are a different service provider, we suggest you contact them to enquire about their charges.

Can I call from a payphone?
Yes, our service can be used from a payphone, but please be aware that calls from payphones may be surcharged and could cost more than the price stated on our website.

How do I pay for my calls?

The charges for calls using our access numbers will appear on your normal phone bill from your landline telephone service provider.

To give you an example, if you call Poland for 5 minutes using your BT phone via access number 0843 042 0190 which is charged at 1 pence per minute, when you get your BT bill you will see the call on your bill charged as, 5 minutes x 1p = 5p.

Please note that normally the international number will not be itemised on your bill. We unfortunately cannot supply itemised call lists.

Can I call from my mobile?

Yes, our access numbers can be used to call from your mobile, but please note that the call may be surcharged by your mobile operator. How much you will be charged depends on your mobile operator and which tariff plan you have. If you want to use the access numbers from your mobile we advise you to contact them to check the rates they charge to call our access numbers.

 ^Top

Are there peak and off-peak rates?

Our access numbers are the same cost no matter what time of day you call. The rates are the same 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 ^Top

The access number to my destination has changed. Why?

The access numbers have a fixed price attached to them. From time to time the rates may go up or down and thus the access number would change. We always try to make our rates as competitive as possible.

 ^Top

Can I use your access numbers outside the UK?

This service is designed for customers dialing from the UK. So if you are calling from outside the UK you will not be able to use Direct Dial Service.

 ^Top

I am not with BT. Can I still use your services?

Our access numbers can be used from most landlines, including providers who are not BT. The billing process is the same. If you are in doubt we suggest you contact your landline service provider to see how much they charge to dial our access numbers. Unfortunately, there are too many landline providers in the UK for us to state here exactly what charges they make.

 ^Top

When do call charges start?

You are charged from the moment you are connected to our service, not the moment the call is answered at the other end.

 ^Top

You have overcharged me, what do I do?

We cannot overcharge you. The rates to our access numbers are set by Ofcom. However, the rates you are actually charged on your bill depend on your landline service provider. We have no control over their billing system and advise you to contact your service provider if in doubt.

How do I contact customer services?

In order to keep the call charges down, we do not provide telephone contact. You can contact us through our contact us form. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

 ^Top

When I call someone overseas will they be charged for the call also?

Normally the person receiving a call will never be charged.
However if you are abroad with your mobile and the mobile is not based in that country, then your mobile provider will charge you for receiving calls whilst abroad also known as roaming charges

 ^Top

I have been told by my service provider, that to use your service is expensive?

The rates are clearly listed on our website. If you regularly dial abroad, using our access numbers will save you pounds on your phone bill. If you dial your destination direct from your landline provider you would normally find that the rate is several times the rate we charge.

I received my telephone bill and have been charged the full international rate for my phone call. Why is this?

If you have received your phone bill and the charge is the full international rate instead of the Direct Dial Service discounted rate, then unfortunately you have not dialed the access number before your call. If you dial our access numbers, normally they will be listed on your landline provider’s bill.

When you make an international call using our access numbers, your landline provider will not know the international number you are calling through the service so they can only show our access numbers on your bill. If your international number appears on your bill then unfortunately you have not dialed the access number first.

Please remember to use the correct instructions. First, dial the access number for the country you want to call. Then, when prompted dial the full international telephone number.
